HOT September

Wow what an unbelievably Hot September we are having!

If like us, you are uncomfortable with the hot sun all day whilst at work or at home most people tend to turn on the air-conditioning or plug in lots of fans in an attempt to keep cool.

This can create an issue that is very difficult to spot but potentially extremely dangerous… It's called overload.

By cranking up the air-con, plugging in fans you may unintentionally be heating up the supply cable also thus making it hotter and prone to melting, or worse still, catch fire.

Caused simply by the heat from the sun this can cause the ambient temperature to rise meaning the cable runs closer to its maximum operating temperature.

Add to this additional loads with fans and portable air conditioning units and the extra current drawn further increases the cable temperature.

The simple solution is to be aware of what your plugging in, for example if you plug a portable air conditioning unit and two fans into an extension lead that could cause an issue, you could simply plug the portable unit into a wall socket instead.

There are some sunny days ahead so keep safe when keeping cool.

If you are concerned that you may be overloading your sockets then give me a call and I will be happy to offer advice either over the phone or personally.
